Equal Opportunity Cartoons

Upon review,

I gotta give props to Nickelodeon.

I didn't notice this when I was younger,

BUT

if they had a cartoon that was based on humans,

they STAYED with an active BLACK character.

Like Skeeter Valentine.

Even though he was blue (or depending on your contrast, green),

folks were aware that he was black.

Then there was Gerald Johanssen from Hey Arnold!

I mean,

you could TELL he was black,

as hale,

considering the OBVIOUS,

and that box-fade my man's was rockin.

Rugrats even caught on when they introduced Susie.

Granted,

the child DOES look like a pickaninny,

but hey,

we were STILL represented.

Let's not forget shows like All That (which spawned Kenan & Kel), My Brother & Me, Roundhouse, and even Gullah Gullah Island.

It almost seemed like during the 90s,

Nick must've been an advocate for affirmative action or something.

These days,

hell,

I think we're lucky if we get an appearance.

I mean,

I recall that True Jackson show,

BUT

didn't it get cancelled?
